MY TOUR
I was lucky enough to see this beautiful new listing within a few hours of showings starting, and am so glad I did!
Whether you are a professor at JMU looking for housing a stone’s throw from your classroom or a family hoping to put down roots in a beautifully constructed and maintained home in the Shenandoah Valley, convenient to all things Harrisonburg - Ridgewood Rd is worth checking out.
Some of my favorite things about this house:
the salvaged elements used in construction - the hardwood floors, staircase, and all the exterior bricks were salvaged from a Civil War Era home in surrounding Rockingham County and provide such a depth of character and charm to this c. 1954 home
the bathrooms - vibrant mid century tile is preserved and celebrated, providing pops of color and delight, modernized with wallpaper that nods to the 1950s construction of the home with vibrant energy that feels very 2020s
the location - located on one of the largest lots in the Forest Hills neighborhood in Harrisonburg, the half acre property feels serene and quiet, surrounded by mature growth trees. The park-like setting of the backyard includes brick serpentine walls, nodding to those notorious of Thomas Jefferson’s UVa and Monticello. A five minute drive brings you to the heart of Harrisonburg, with easy access to James Madison University, downtown, and access to 81 for commuters or weekend travelers.
I am also a big fan of how the sellers have designed and staged the home - from the choices in wallpaper and paint colors to the casual placement of an Eames lounge in the wood paneled library room, I’d move in as is.
This home has a very lived-in but pristine feel to it - highly recommend adding to your tour list if character, charm, and convenience in the Shenandoah Valley are what you’re looking for.
THE AREA
907 Ridgewood Rd is located in the Forest Hills neighborhood in Harrisonburg. A quiet, calm, and extra-convenient area adjacent to James Madison University and the Edith J. Carrier Arboretum, but protected by forestry for peace and quiet.
Homes in Forest Hills mostly consist of Mid Century ranches and colonials ranging in value from the mid $400,000s to high $600,000s.
It is pretty special to think that an Arboretum could be your backyard and that a delicious treat from Heritage Bakery & Cafe would only be a 5 minute drive from your front door if this became your home.
