3 Things to Ask Before Moving to The Shenandoah Valley

Maybe you’re reading this because you’re thinking about moving to The Valley…Welcome!

Whether you’re coming from over the mountain in Charlottesville or from DC, the Shenandoah Valley offers a different pace of life. As someone who has found a home here and helps others do the same, I know the lifestyle shift can be a big change.

Once you know what you’d like to spend on a home and talk with a local lender (if you need one, let me know!), here are 3 questions to ask before you move:

WHY are you moving here?

In my experience, a lot of people move to The Valley for increased affordability and space. Consider that choosing space & privacy usually means a give and take with some conveniences of bigger city living. Things like high-speed internet or walkability might not be available everywhere.

WHERE will you be working?

Do you work remotely? Or will you be commuting nearby to Charlottesville or Harrisonburg? Waynesboro and Staunton offer convenient access to Interstates 64 and 81 for those planning their commutes. If you ARE working from home, be super clear about what you need from your house to make that enjoyable - it’s important.

WHAT kind of life do you want?

Want a historic feel or the farm-life? Do you want to walk downtown for dinner or would you rather be able to raise animals? Ready to be a steward of a historic home or prefer somewhere low-maintenance? Different areas offer different ways of life and I will navigate the zoning and regulations to figure out where is the best fit for you.

Based on what you want out of life here, I’ll tailor your home search to you -  with an eye for design.

Whenever you are ready to start your search, let me know and we can set up a time to chat about what you are looking for. In the meantime, feel free to click below and tell me a little bit about what you think you might be looking for.
